Everton Transfer Race En-Nesyri: Toffees Falling Behind as Player Asks for Talks

Everton transfer race En-Nesyri amid Juventus and Napoli interest

Everton transfer race En-Nesyri has taken another worrying turn for the Merseyside club, with fresh reports suggesting the Toffees are now falling behind Juventus and Napoli in the chase for the Fenerbahçe striker.

According to reports from Turkey, Everton have been pushing to secure the signature of Youssef En-Nesyri during the January transfer window. However, competition from Serie A giants Juventus and Napoli is proving difficult to overcome, with the player now asking for talks to begin with the Italian clubs.

Everton falling behind in En-Nesyri pursuit

Turkish outlet Sabah claims both Juventus and Napoli have formally entered negotiations with Fenerbahçe over a potential deal for En-Nesyri. The two Italian sides are reportedly pushing for a loan move with an option to buy, a structure that mirrors Everton’s proposal.

The Moroccan forward is said to be open to discussions with the Serie A clubs and has already asked for talks to commence. In contrast, Everton and Nottingham Forest have reportedly seen their approaches rejected, with En-Nesyri again citing concerns about England’s cold weather.

This is not the first time such reasoning has surfaced. During his spell at Sevilla, En-Nesyri previously resisted a move to West Ham using similar arguments, suggesting climate and lifestyle remain influential factors in his decisions.

Everton’s offer already on the table

Despite the setbacks, Everton have not been inactive. Journalist Ertan Süzgün reports the Toffees submitted an official proposal worth €4.5m as a loan fee, alongside a €20m purchase option to be triggered at the end of the season.

Crucially, Fenerbahçe are believed to be satisfied with the financial terms of the deal. The stumbling block remains En-Nesyri himself, as his preference currently leans towards Juventus or Napoli.

Everton’s need for attacking reinforcements has been well documented, especially following recent squad issues and inconsistent results. Updates such as the Everton injury concerns against Aston Villa have only increased pressure on recruitment this month.

Juventus and Napoli hold appeal

Juventus and Napoli are seen as far more attractive destinations at this stage. While Naples offers the warm Mediterranean climate En-Nesyri reportedly prefers, Juventus’ European pedigree and competitive environment also appeal strongly.

Although Turin is not renowned for warm weather, Juventus’ status as a serial title contender and Champions League regular remains a powerful draw. Everton, by contrast, continue to rebuild and lack European football, which may be influencing the striker’s stance.

What this means for Everton’s January plans

As things stand, Everton may need to reassess their priorities. With En-Nesyri requiring “too many dominoes” to fall in their favour, the club could instead turn attention to alternative targets.

The Toffees have already shown willingness to act decisively in the market, as seen in their €5m Kevin Boma transfer move. Diversifying targets may prove vital if talks with En-Nesyri stall completely.

Supporters remain hopeful, but patience is wearing thin following Everton’s recent disappointments, including their FA Cup exit to Sunderland on penalties.

Decision time approaching

The coming days will be crucial. If Juventus or Napoli accelerate negotiations, Everton could be left watching from the sidelines. For now, the Everton transfer race En-Nesyri remains open, but the balance has clearly shifted away from Goodison Park.

Unless En-Nesyri reconsiders his stance or Everton sweeten the personal terms significantly, the Toffees may be forced to move on and secure reinforcements elsewhere before the January window closes.
